Warning Equipment — Authorized Use
Applies to red and blue warning lights, sirens, PA amplifiers, wig-wag flashers, and amber warning equipment.
Who This Equipment Is For
Emergency warning equipment is sold for authorized agency, fleet, and professional use: law enforcement, fire, EMS, towing and recovery, road maintenance, utility service, and security operations. It is not sold for use on private passenger vehicles.
Red and Blue Are Restricted Everywhere
Every U.S. state reserves red and blue forward-facing warning lights for authorized emergency vehicles. In many states, it is unlawful for an unauthorized vehicle to be equipped with them at all, whether or not they are switched on. Unauthorized use can support criminal charges, including impersonating a peace officer, which is a felony in many states.
Sirens
Most states prohibit non-emergency vehicles from being equipped with a siren at all, whether or not it is used. A public-address (PA) function does not change this. Check your state law before ordering.
Amber Is Regulated by Use, Not Just Color
Most states allow amber warning lights only while the vehicle is performing a qualifying job: towing and recovery, road construction and maintenance, utility service, or oversize-load escort. Some states, including California, require a permit to display flashing amber lights.
States We Cannot Ship To
We cannot ship blue-emitting products to Arkansas, or dash-, hood-, grille-, or roof-mounted red products to Louisiana. Both states restrict the sale itself, not just the use. If you are an authorized agency purchaser in either state, contact us and we will handle the order directly.
Your Responsibility
State and local laws vary widely and change often. The purchaser, installer, and operator are responsible for confirming what is lawful where the vehicle is registered and operated. Nothing on this site is legal advice, and we make no representation that any product is lawful for use in your jurisdiction.
